Shares of Apple (AAPL) are on pace to close above $700 for the first time ever today, so we thought we would provide an update on how the company compares to other large S&P 500 companies in terms of market cap. With a market cap of $656.37 billion, AAPL now has a market cap greater than the GDP of Switzerland!
Relative to other stocks, AAPL has also widened its lead over Exxon Mobil (XOM) by a considerable margin. In fact, AAPL is now nearly as big as XOM and Microsoft (MSFT) combined! Looking at it another way, AAPL's market cap is so big that if you took all 600 companies in the S&P Small Cap index and added up their market caps, you would still need another $90 billion to equal the market cap of Apple.
