The Case of the Mondays Strikes Again
Monday, September 10, 2012 at 05:39PM Today is Monday, so it should come as no surprise to investors that the market was down. Over the last five months, the Dow has only been up on TWO Mondays. It has been down on a whopping 17! As if Mondays aren't already depressing enough!
Below is a chart and table highlighting the recent spate of down Mondays.


Since 1900, there have only been three other years where the Dow had a similar period of down Mondays -- 1920, 1934 and 1974. What is crazy about this year is that the stretch of down Mondays has come during a time when the market has gone higher. Since April 23rd, in which the Dow has been down on 17 of 19 Mondays, the Dow is actually up 1.73%. As shown below, the market fell significantly during the periods in 1920, 1934 and 1974. This market is crazy...what else is new?
