The S&P 500 is now more than 5% below its 50-day moving average, and just 21% of stocks in the index are currently above their 50-days. Below is a list of the S&P 500 stocks that are currently trading the farthest below their 50-days. As shown, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is the most oversold at 34.78% below its 50-day. JC Penney (JCP) isn't far behind at -33.15%. Western Union (WU), Apollo Group (APOL) and Newfield Exploration (NFX) round out the top five.
Unfortunately for the market given that it's the biggest stock in the world, Apple (AAPL) is also on the list below. Only 13 other S&P 500 stocks are farther below their 50-days than AAPL. Ouch.
