Food Stamp Usage Continues to Surge

While today's jobless claims paint a more positive picture of the US economic backdrop, recent data on food stamp usage in the United States provides a depressing counterweight to the improvement in jobless claims.  As shown in the chart, the percentage of Americans currently using 'Food Stamps' has surged in recent years and now sits at a record high of more than 14%.  The continued surge in the level of Americans on 'Food Stamps' is one clear signal that as much as the economic numbers continue to improve, there are still a lot of Americans struggling.
