Stronger Than Expected Industrial Production

This morning's release of Industrial Production for October rose 0.7% compared to September, which was considerably stronger than the 0.4% estimate.  The Industrial Production Index is currently at its highest level since August 2008, but well off the pre-recession high of 100.68.

The table below highlights the y/y change in each of the Industrial Production subcomponents.  Of the 20 sectors highlighted, nine showed faster growth than the headline number (3.9%) while eleven showed weaker than headline growth.  Of those eleven groups, however, only five actually saw negative growth.  Given these figures, 75% of the sectors shown have seen growth in the last year.  For those who wish to view charts of each Industrial Production subcomponent, you can do so by clicking here.
