Thirty-Year Mortgage Rate Hits Record Lows

If there's one positive takeaway from the continued concerns regarding the US economy, it's that mortgage rates have resumed their downward trend.  This morning Freddie Mac announced that the rate on a 30-year mortgage dropped to a record low level of 4.69%.  Three months ago, when the Fed ended its program of buying mortgage backed securities, 30-year mortgage rates were at 5.01% and the popular view was that rates would jump.  Instead, rates have declined by over 30 basis points.
