Earnings Beat Rate by Sector

So far this earnings season, 67.6% of US companies have beaten earnings estimates.  This is above the historical average, but below the levels of the prior three earnings seasons.  Below we highlight the earnings beat rates for the ten major sectors.  As shown, Consumer Discretionary has the highest beat rate at 74.8%, followed closely by Technology at 73.2%.  Consumer Staples, Industrials, and Materials all have beat rates higher than the overall number.  The Financial sector has the lowest beat rate at 58.5%.  Health Care is the second worst at 61.3%, followed by Energy at 67.1%.
