March Same-Store Sales
Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 11:33AM March same-store sales numbers were released for a large number of retailers today, and the results really show why the group has been moving higher lately. The average change in March '10 sales versus March '09 sales for the companies listed below was +10.8%. When comparing actual versus estimates, Cato Corp (CAT) was by far the best with a spread of 20 percentage points (+24% vs. +4%). Overall, 22 out of the 24 companies listed below came in better than expected. JC Penny (JCP) and Abercrombie (ANF) were the only two to miss estimates. Three companies that posted strong results but aren't seeing gains in share prices today are Kohl's (KSS), Nordstron (JWN), and American Eagle (AEO). AEO and Zumiez (ZUMZ) are getting hit the hardest today.
