Sector Performance Since 2007
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 01:57PM Below we take a look at S&P 500 sector performance since 2007. For each sector, we highlight its change from peak to trough (generally late 2007 to early 2009), trough to current price, and the gain needed from current price to get back to its peak price. As shown, a few sectors are already getting pretty close to their peaks prior to the last bear market. Consumer Discretionary and Technology only need to gain slightly more than 10% to get back to their 2007 highs, while Consumer Staples is just 6.78% away. And even though the Financial sector has gained the most off of its trough in early 2009, it still needs to gain 129% to get back to its all-time high reached in 2007.

Below are charts of each sector since 2007. Given what this market has gone through, it's pretty astounding how close some sectors already are to getting back to their prior peaks.
