Revenue Beat Rate This Earnings Season
Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 09:59AM In the last three earnings seasons, all we heard about was that bottom line numbers were coming in strong, but top line numbers remained weak. This earnings season, however, the top line numbers have been very strong as well. Below we highlight the percentage of stocks that beat revenue estimates on a quarterly basis going back to 1998. As shown, the revenue "beat" rate is currently at 72% this quarter. This is the highest level seen since the fourth quarter of 2004.

This is written as if beating estimates equals "strong." The quarter may be "stronger than expected," but it's not possible to make a case beyond that with what's provided.
Perhaps you have a series that shows changes in revenues that would illustrate how the quarter appears within the historical context of revenue changes. If so, I'd love to see it.
If you drop the post low enough, even pygmies can get over it. I would like to see analysis of how earnings relate to pre-revised estimates, and not the dropped ones
