Best and Worst Performing Stocks in August

As mentioned in our last post, the Financial sector led the market in August, so it's no surprise that most of the top performing S&P 500 stocks during the month were Financials.  As shown below, AIG was by far the best performing stock in August with a gain of 245%.  Eastman Kodak (EK) ranked second with a huge gain of 79%, followed by MBIA, Citigroup, Genworth, and Hartford Financial.

Only 128 stocks in the index were down last month, and just nine were down more than 10%.  MetroPCS was the worst performing S&P 500 stock in August with a decline of 32.83%.  Other notables on the losers list include ERTS, GLW, S, and APOL.
