Looking For Action? Most Volatile Stocks
Monday, December 22, 2008 at 05:37AM For traders with a more short-term time horizon, we have compiled a list of the S&P 1500 stocks that have the largest intraday high-low ranges (based on the average percent spread between the intraday high and low over the last fifty days). We then grouped the stocks based on whether they have a rising or falling 50-day moving average. Stocks highlighted in gray are new to the list this month.
This month, only one of the stocks (Lithia Motors- LAD) making the list has a rising 50-day moving average, and would you believe it's related to the auto industry? All of the other stocks have declining 50-day moving averages, and as has been the case for much of 2008, the most volatile stocks have been centered in the Consumer Discretionary and Financial sectors.
