Asset Class Performance

We've recently gotten a few MyBespoke requests for the year to date performance of various asset classes.  Below we provide the year to date performance of equities, bonds, oil, gold, REITS, the US dollar and volatility (VIX).  We have also included their performance since the bull market in equities that began in October 2002 as well as their performance since the 7/19 market highs.  As shown, volatility (VIX) has been the best performer this year, followed by oil, emerging markets stocks and then gold.  REITS have been the worst performers year to date followed by the dollar and then high yield bonds.  Since the bull market began, the MSCI Emerging Markets index is up 232%, oil is up 166% and gold is up 124%.
